Quick Write is a Chrome extension for creating, reading, editing, and organizing Markdown notes in a local directory that the user explicitly authorizes. It also provides optional Web Assist and AI actions that run only when the user invokes them.
Data processed
- Markdown note content and file metadata inside the user-authorized directory.
- Extension settings, recent-note metadata, the authorized directory handle, and temporary recovery content used to prevent data loss.
- When the user invokes page capture or Web Assist: page title, URL, selected text, visible page content, user prompts, and screenshots or images selected for that action.
- Local AI activity records, including truncated prompt, input, response or error summaries, timestamps, action type, and image count.
Storage and use
Notes are read from and written to the authorized local directory through the browser File System Access API. Settings, recent-note metadata, and Web Assist activity records are stored in browser-managed extension storage. The directory handle and recovery content may be stored in browser-managed IndexedDB. These data are used only to provide note editing, recovery, page capture, Web Assist, and user-requested AI functionality.
AI requests and network transfer
Quick Write does not transmit note or webpage content merely because a page is open. Data is sent for AI processing only after the user invokes an AI or Web Assist action.
An invoked AI action may send the relevant prompt, selected text, visible page content, note content, page URL or title, screenshots, or images to an AI endpoint configured by the user or to an AI bridge available in the current browser environment. The receiving service processes the data under its own terms and privacy policy. Users should not submit sensitive information to a service they do not trust. Quick Write does not sell user data and does not use it for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or unrelated purposes.
Permissions
Quick Write uses browser storage for settings and local state; tab and scripting access for user-requested page context; host access to make the Web Assist interface available on webpages; and local directory access only after the user selects a directory through the browser picker.
Retention and deletion
Markdown files remain in the selected local directory until the user changes or deletes them. Browser-managed data remains until replaced, cleared, or removed when the extension is uninstalled, subject to Chrome's storage behavior. Web Assist keeps a limited local activity history that users can clear from the extension. Uninstalling Quick Write does not delete Markdown files already saved in the user's directory.
User choices
Users can decline or revoke local directory permission, avoid optional AI and Web Assist actions, clear extension data, or uninstall the extension. Users control which content is submitted through user-invoked actions.
Security, children, and changes
Configured remote endpoints should use HTTPS. Quick Write is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect children's personal information. This policy will be updated before materially different data practices are introduced. Changes will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
